Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly, a fashion icon who’s determination to succeed in the industry has brought her thus far.
We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Aminobi Kimberly. I’m 27 years old, 6ft tall. I’m from delta state by heritage and lagosian by birth.
I’m the first child of three. I’m the only female child and I have a widowed mother.
How did you come to be a model and what was your inspiration?
Growing up, I have always loved watching fashion shows and runways models. Funny that I used to dress my kid brother in my outfits and organise a mock runway show. So I knew it was for me because I also wanted to style outfits.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No matter the kind of life you choose to lead, life always has its challenges both big and small. Mine has (also) had its unique ups and downs.
I wasn’t born with a silver spoon but my dad made sure I had the good things of life. My dad passed at a very early age and I had to assume a fatherly and protector role. In the course of that, I have learnt responsibility and resilience.
Through it all, I have still found reasons to be hopeful, to pursue my dreams and the courage to create my art and craft.
What does your typical day as a model of your status look like?
I wake up, pray, go through my Instagram page for ideas and inspiration. That’s why I am picky about who I follow.
When I’m not working I prefer to watch a movie or write or cook. But when I’m working, I’m in the zone and happy that I’m finally creating magic as I have always wanted to.
The modeling industry is quite dominated by people who see nudity as way of expressing confidence in their bodies. As someone who is often posing for cameras, how do you see nudity in entertainment and is it something you’re comfortable with?
I am a spiritual person who believes that the most beautiful things in life, are those that occur naturally. The human body is a craft of genius design, and each one is unique in its imperfections. It is those imperfections that highlight the beauty of the whole. So as a nudist I don’t find anything wrong in the expression of my complete physical beauty.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Asides from being a model, I cook and plan to start a clothing and bikini line soon.
Having done so much for yourself in this short while, how do you want people to define you and your style?
I want people to remember me as someone who tried to live as an icon, with a style unique to that of a queen and goddess.
If you could pick any celebrity or model to work with, whom will it be? Why?
I would say Victoria’s Secret. Why? I have always loved the brand.
Like I stated earlier, I loved watching fashion shows and runway. As I grew older, I had the body and would love to wear a Victoria’s Secret lingerie and walk the runway.
