Being a model may seem rosy and glamorous to many. Particularly with regards to the fame and packaging that come with it. However, the road is not all that straight as it has it’s own hurdles, which only few are fortunate to scale through.

OT’Chik Models met with a fast rising fashion model and she shared an interesting insight on her journey in the modeling industry. Let’s see what Melissa Chidinma has to say about the challenges she face while chasing her dreams.

May you introduce yourself?

My name is Melissa Chidinma Uzoigwe.  I hail from Enugu state in Nigeria. I am a graduate of Accounting and I’m very fluent in speaking English and Yoruba. I enjoy singing, dancing and tourism. Generally, I’m quite interested in networking and meeting new people.

What made you venture into modeling and how long have you been one?

I went into modeling because I know I possess all the attributes of a supermodel and I felt I will succeed in it. Also, I want to be able to influence and affect lives positively. I want to help those in need and most especially, to give back to my society. I joined the industry in year 2017.

Has your interest in modeling in anyway affected your relationship with your family?

My Mom is not fully in support of it. This is majorly due to the way I dress sometimes in pictures. But I’ve made her understand that those things are not worn just so one can walk round the streets of Lagos that way but for photo shoots. If it wasn’t for her, I would have started my modeling career earlier enough. But she gave contrary reasons back then. And I think such situation also affects lots of potential models out there. Meanwhile, other members of my family have right from the onset, been supportive of my dream. We just need to learn to support people’s choice of career.

Who is your favorite celebrity model and why?

I have a lot. But my favorite celebrity Models are Kim Kardashian, Megan Denise Fox and Agbani Darego. The reason is because of their zeal, intellectuals and their strength in the industry that have brought them to the height they have attained now.

Have you faced any embarrassing moments so far in your career as a model? What was the most embarrassing of them all?

Well, not exactly. I hope I don’t ever have one. (Laughs)

A word for your fans out there.

Keep believing in yourself and never stop fighting for the life you have always dreamt of. Don’t stop trying until you achieve that goal you set. Be confident in yourself, get inspired and be motivated. Never allow your emotions bring you down, KEEP THAT POSITIVE ENERGY ALIVE.
